Baby & Kids Market

Baby & Kids Market Logo
* How long has your market been running?
Since 2003. It is the original and biggest market of its kind. It started as one market in Hawthorn VIC and very quickly grew from there. We now have 30 locations across Australia and hold 130 markets annually.

* What made you decide to start the market?
The Baby & Kids Market was founded by a Melbourne mum of three when she saw how much ‘stuff’ had been accumulated, and then wondered what to do with it all when the kids no longer needed it, as it was still in such good condition.

The market was started with the philosoophy that we all want great quality for our children, but we don’t want to waste money and we really want to contribute to reducing waste in our society. The Baby & Kids Market was designed to offer all that, and a fun day out as well!

* Type of products sold at your market?
Baby & Kids Market has pre-loved as it’s primary offer. Strict quality control means the products look, and often are, as good as new, price savings are exceptional, and new parents can get friendly information and advice from other parents.

Additionally every market location also includes a selection of unique businesses, mainly started by work-at-home Mums, selling new goods also. This includes hand-crafted goods, baked goods, and boutique clothing and decor.

* Number of stalls at your markets?
Subject to the location, we have from 35 right up to 108 stalls! We always use indoor locations to make shopping comfortable no matter what the weather outside!

Three times a year in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane we also hold larger events called “Mums Big Day Out”. These feature 75-108 of the pre-loved and new stalls that every knows and loves, but have the added bonus of free samples from big brands, product demonstrations, and loads of free entertainment for the kiddies.

*Locations and how often your markets run?
I feel like Lucky Starr singing his famous song “I’ve been everywhere, man”, and funnily enough many of our locations are the same!

So here goes, (in no state order) we’ve been to Wollongong, Geelong, Rosehill, Hurstville, Kellyville, Morphettville, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Central Coast, Flemington, and Launceston.

I’ve run out of rhymes!…Belmont, Berwick, Blackburn, Canberra, Coburg, Croydon, Five Dock, Hobart, Jindalee, Lane Cove, Malvern , Moorabbin, Newcastle, North Beaches, North Brisbane, Penrith, South Brisbane, South Fremantle, Sutherland and Warwick. Can I breathe now?

There are between 3 and 8 markets at each location throughout the year.

* Anything else you’d like to share about your market?
It’s great fun and very rewarding to be a ‘marketeer’. The feedback we get from people is just lovely – from families with lots of kids trying to make ends meet, to the Mum who suddenly found herself having to flee domestic violence and starting a new life but still wanting her child to have everything, through to the stallholders who are so grateful they can come and sell their items without having to photograph them all, monitor an auction and then get to the post office!

The Baby & Kids Market is a real community event that benefits so many people in so many ways, and the world by recycling. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, doesn’t it?!

* How long has your market been running?
We have been running the Market for 3 Years, and loving every minute of it.

* What made you decide to start the market?
I decided to start the market just after the birth of our daughter Yasmin, I realised that there were no markets near where I lived, I had collected so much stuff as you do when have kids. I thought there so many parents in the same boat, so our market began. I wanted our stalls to be affordable to anyone, so that anyone could have a go.

* Type of products sold at your market?
New, Pre-loved and Handmade!

* Number of stalls at your markets?
The different locations vary from 40+ to 60+ stalls.

Stash & Treasure Recycler’s Market

Market of the Week - Stash and Treasure Recycler's Market

* How long has your market been running?
This is our first of possibly more!

* What made you decide to start the market?
A conversation with my daughter Justine about what was to become of my creative stash. A long term sewer, mixed media artist and collector, the time had come to move stuff on. My creative direction has changed. I suggested why not run a market? On November 13 2010 the idea was born.

* Type of products sold at your market?
This market is about de-cluttering excess creative materials. Pre-loved, new, handmade, found, inherited, collected, hoarded will be on sale.

All artists, sewers, mixed media and assemblage artists, collectors, photographers, painters, quilters, dyers, jewellers, wood turners, scrapbookers, journallers, bookmakers, knitters, sculptors, felters, screen printers, weavers, beaders, toy makers, bike repairers, doll makers, crocheters, mechanics, ceramicists … anyone with too much creative stuff, this is the market for you.

* Number of stalls at your markets?
Currently 36 vendors have booked a table, some have booked two. By this time next week we’re confident the number will be more. Vendor spaces are available.

* Locations and how often your markets run?
Stash & Treasure Recycler’s Market will be at Marrickville Town Hall, 303 Marrickville Road, Marrickville 2204 on Saturday January 14, from 9am – 2pm. We’ll decide the future of Stash & Treasure after we survive this one :~)

* Anything else you’d like to share about your market?
The response to the Stash & Treasure Recycler’s Market concept has been phenomenal. From people with stash and treasure like recycler’s, artists, sewers and artistic and craft people to people seeking to de-stash, the response has been overwhelming.

Jourmalists, radio announcers, advertising people, local businesses, community organisations plus online groups have congratulated us on this fabulous idea. We agree that a good idea has become a great idea!

Mumz Share the Love Boutique Market

Mumz Share The Love Boutique Market

* How long has your market been running?
Launching Sunday 18th December, 2011

* What made you decide to start the market?
Over the last year, I have been approached by more and more Mums on Facebook asking me if  ‘Mumz share the love’ would ever consider becoming a market.

I love to help other Mums promote their businesses through advertising on Facebook and my web site, so this was the next step for me to help other Mums more.

Many markets on the Central Coast cater for handmade items, but there was a large percentage of Mums out there with home businesses that weren’t crafty, and nowhere to showcase their products.

So with a lot of people searching for the right venue to have it, with a high flow of people, so I have decided to have it in a club.

* Type of products sold at your market?
‘Mumz Share the Love’ is a boutique market, selling new items by work at home mums (WAHMs).

* Number of stalls at your markets?
23

* Locations and how often your markets run?
Our first and second market date will be held at Mingara Recreational Centre. Our 3rd market date is to be held at Gosford RSL Club.

At the moment, the first two market dates are a month apart, to cater for the school holidays, with a high flow of holiday visitors. The third market date will be two months later. I am hoping to make it every two months on the second week of the month.

* Anything else you’d like to share about your market?
Mumz Share The Love Boutique Market is Central Coast’s first ’boutique market’ supporting work at home mums’ products.

Mumz Share The Love Boutique Market holds its first Grand Opening on the 18th December 2011 in time for the Summer Season and Christmas.

Our Boutique Market will be selling products from gift ware, clothing for mums and children, textiles, decor, home ware, food, candles and much, much more.

We give each stall holder ‘creator’ an outlet to retail their wares to a larger audience. You don’t need to be a handmade business to be a stallholder at our market. As long as you are a Mum and it’s your own home business.

Our Market has officially been running since March this year 2011 we did do a couple trial markets in Dec 10 and Jan 11 before going ahead with it.

* What made you decide to start the market?

* Locations and how often your markets run?
The markets are held quarterly (March, June, September and December) at the Freeling Recreation Park on Cherry Street, Freeling, South Australia

* Anything else you’d like to share about your market?
The Barossa & Light Children’s Market is the very first children’s market to be set up and organised right here on the edge of The Barossa Valley. The markets are held quarterly (March, June, September and December) at the Freeling Recreation Park on Cherry Street, Freeling, South Australia.

The Barossa & Light Children’s Market features a minimum of 40 stalls, targeted mainly at children, but with a few goodies for mum and dad, and local visitors. There are a mixture of indoor and outdoor stalls at March and December but mainly indoor for June and September in order to accommodate Adelaide weather cycles.

A selection of foods such as Pies, Pasties & Sausage Rolls from the Kitchen supplement the Sausage Sizzle and Hot Potato Van for those who would like to indulge in some of the local food. A bouncy castle (weather permitting), face painting and temporary tattoos along with colouring in activities on offer to entertain those who are young at heart.

We believe the success of our market is due to the need for a Market like this in the Barossa so locals don’t have to travel to the city. We also have the opportunity to showcase local businesses and services, and provide an opportunity for the community to connect in a public event.
We have on board Freeling Estate as a Major Sponsor for the next 12 months but are looking for minor sponsors to join them for each market.

By becoming a Barossa & Light Children’s Market Sponsor, your business will be given as much exposure as we can possibly give you.
If you would like to support this local event through sponsorship and would love to take advantage of this advertising opportunity starting from after our December 11th Market and running up until our March 18th 2012 Market, please contact us barossa.light.childrensmarket@gmail.com

* What made you decide to start the market?
The Handmade Craft Market was started by Rachelle Stewart. She created a boutique market that support local crafters, showcasing and supporting the handmade, handcrafted and home grown talent on the Central Coast.

I have recently taken over the reins from Rachelle and the Handmade Craft Market is something I feel passionate about, and will continue to uphold the high quality and integrity that Rachelle has created.

I also feel strongly about supporting the local area that has made a welcome home for me and my family. I have sourced a new venue for the 2012 Handmade Craft Markets enabling the market to offer more stalls, and support even more local stallholders. My goal is to make it a day out, that the entire family will enjoy.
